About
Urban Pantry is a social business on a mission to transform Auckland with local food growing initiatives. We turn wasted space like vacant lots and rooftops into edible gardens.
What we do
- Create shared edible gardens for residential buildings, workplaces and community groups.
- Get eateries set up to grow produce on site.
- Develop creative solutions for urban food growing.
- Connect people who have no space of their own with land for growing food through our Growing Together programme.
- Run workshops and events to demonstrate how easy it is to grow your own food.
- We’re growing a community of people who support urban food growing. Our community helps to bring our projects to life by sharing skills, knowledge, ideas, resources and enthusiasm, and you can get involved.
Why we’re so excited about urban food growing
- Locally grown food is fresher, more delicious and has less impact on the environment.
- Growing your own is way more rewarding, and living in the central city shouldn’t mean you miss out.
- We can make wasted space useful, even temporarily.

What’s a social business?
To us it means we operate like a business, but what drives us is making Auckland a better place to live and work. We’re not about making profits for our owners – all of our profits go back into supporting community food growing initiatives.
